The next step was to prime my models. This involves spray painting the models with a primer spray, from one to three coats typically. My brother paints Warhammer figures, and my father used to do model painting too, so I asked them for advice as well as looking online. My brother kindly let me use his primer spray paint as a trial run before I bought my own.
I used a 400 ml can Citadel Corax White model paint. It was important that I made sure it was suitable for plastics otherwise the paint wouldn't have stuck. Shake the can for 2 minutes, spray outside in a ventilated area in 15-25 degrees Celsius weather and hold the model 20-40 cm away. I think this time I tried to spray the model all in one go whereas next time I would spray one side and let it dry and then do the next side. Watching people spray model horses on YouTube, I saw that they held the model by the tail when spraying and so I did the same.
Starlight
This model came out perfect after spraying... until one of the other horses fell over when they were drying and hit this one. This accident left dents and scrapes on both sides of the hind legs from where the other horse hit it and where it hit the ground. Next time I know to space them further apart and leave them alone while drying.

With this model I unfortunately ran out of spray paint...

Lonesome Glory
This was the model that fell over, you can see that he has scuffs on his front and his hind legs. He also has some over-spray on the other side where I got too close with the spray can. This can all be fixed with sanding before the next coat.
