Professional Practice - Instagram Price Lists

I knew that I needed to add information about prices onto my Instagram. I designed a series of images to display this information but I wasn't happy with how they looked. I was scrolling through Instagram and saw another young artist who had put commission information in her highlights. She had included information about herself, what a commission is, a description of each style she offers as well as the prices for each. I really liked this as it felt more personal than just a list of numbers. I took inspiration for this and used my illustrations to enhance my own price lists.

The size of these images fits the Instagram story, with an extra tall border at the top and bottom to allow for different phone sizes, text boxes and borders. I added my logo and my username to the top of each page in case anyone screenshotted a page but couldn't remember which page it belonged to. It also keeps it cohesive. I tried using different coloured backgrounds for each page but this became too busy. It was too boring all being the same colour too. So, in the end, I decided to use a different coloured background for each section.

The first section is an 'about' section. I used the same colour as my profile picture for this one as I feel like people associate this most with my account. I included a cover page with all of my social media links. Unfortunately, I could not add a 'swipe up' feature to my story as this is only for accounts that have been verified or have more than 10,000 followers. I liked the use of the circle icons to show what each link was for more visually. These are the same icons that I used in my portfolios and on my business cards, again keeping everything smart and uniform. As with my website, I wanted an introductory paragraph about me to make it feel more personal. People who have been following my page know more about me, but for those who have come to my page for a commission might not. I then included some basic information about what illustrations I offer, as well as basic information about payments. I provide more information in conversation with clients and this can also be found on my website. Using one horse at the bottom of the page still felt empty, but by adding another smaller one it felt fun. This is also a layout that I have used in my 'Celebration of the Horse' book.

This next section is for my sketches. I have not had people commission these as I usually do an Instagram story where people can request something for me to sketch. But I always like to give people the option to buy something custom. I wanted to make these affordable but equally worth my time. These are sketches drawn for my self directed project and some are posted on my Instagram.

The next section features my simplistic illustrations. These are best used as profile pictures and Instagram highlights. I have also had people use them as logos on t-shirts and other equestrian merchandise. I developed this style in a project last year but posted them on my Instagram recently and they were very popular! I also wanted to make these affordable.

My next section features my favourite style, my realistic illustrations. These are more expensive, but I feel like they are priced fairly. A full-body portrait with tack and a background costs twice as much as just a portrait. I wanted to make it clear how much each additional element costs. This is clear throughout the different sections. Because these drawings take much longer to do, they deserve a higher price. They are also more likely to be printed and framed or used as a phone background etc rather than just a logo so people are more likely to be happy to save up and purchase a drawing like this. I have asked family and friends whether they think these prices are fair. Perhaps once I get more interest and have more experience then I can put my prices up, but for now I am happy with these.

After this, I would like to add a page for other pets and animals in the realistic style but I need to draw more examples of these first. This is something I will do after my degree.
