I came across a competition on Instagram to design your 'dream team kit' held by Hurlingham Polo 1875. I decided that I would enter this and include my drawings as sketches for my self directed project.

The competition was:

"We have a challenge for you… we want you to have a go at creating your dream team kit!

What do we mean by this? Well, we want you to put pens and pencils to paper and design what your ultimate team shirt would look like. Would it pay homage to your favourite football team’s shirt? Would it look like the outfit of a superhero? Or would it be a combination of your favourite things all bundled into one? It’s entirely up to you! Our competition is open to people of all ages and we’ve got separate prizes for two age groups."

PRIZES

Entrants aged 15 and under – One lucky winner will receive a physical, printed version of their designed shirt. The winner will be chosen by one of our Brand Ambassadors.

Entrants aged 16+ – One lucky winner will receive a £100 gift card for our website. A shortlist of four finalists will be chosen by one of our Brand Ambassadors before a public vote is held on our @hurlingham_onfield Instagram to determine the winner.

I decided to have a go at drawing some polo horses in bright pink, which is my preferred colour to sketch in. Below are the sketches I came up with.

As I drew each one, I added it to the t-shirt design template. Here is a first draft below.

It took a lot of rearranging to get them all to fit and in the end, I had to add a polo glove, helmet, mallet and balls to fill the gaps. I also added some text to give it a more sporty feel. I added the Hurlingham Polo logo to the collar, glove and saddle pads in the image as an extra detail. I made the background pale pink instead of white to make it softer too. At first, I was reluctant to make some of the horses smaller but I'm really happy with the final look. I really had fun designing this.

I submitted my entry and a few weeks later I saw this on their Instagram story!! https://www.instagram.com/hurlingham_onfield/

I can't believe I won!! Just in time to do some birthday shopping!
